To the Editor:
Re "Study Finds That the Number of Protestant Americans Is in Steep Decline" (news article, Oct. 10):
Religious "nones" (not affiliated) are not only more numerous, but they have also become much more politically involved. Voter turnout and campaign activism by secular Americans has increased since 1990, and they now constitute a sizable proportion of Democratic voters.
My research has found that a major reason for such involvement is opposition to recent political and policy gains by the religious right. Nones and seculars may not be joiners, but they are increasingly likely to be voters and political activists.
