Re "The Paperwork Mountain at Veterans Affairs" (editorial, Nov. 24):
In addition to the backlog of veterans' claims, I fear that the department will be overwhelmed by the need for research and counseling on post-traumatic stress disorder.
For years, I have urged the V.A. to engage in innovative public-private partnerships at America's research universities. Unfortunately, department officials in Washington have failed to embrace this idea.
It's time to put our veterans' needs over protecting turf, or else the number of claims pending for more than 125 days is going to keep increasing.
