As a former Teach for America corps member and recruiter and an undergraduate business major, I find a lot to like in "After College, Deferring Six Figures on Wall Street for Teacher's Salary" (DealBook, Jan. 3).

The article accurately outlines the benefits of having bright, enthusiastic people teaching in low-income communities. Yet there is a glaring hole in Teach for America's recruitment in that it misses most of the talented students from schools not in the top tier.

It is not only students at top universities who can have a strong effect on students and personally benefit from the experience, yet Teach for America operates that way. It recruits most heavily in the Ivy League and on other prestigious campuses, often leaving the top students from other schools in the dark about the admission process.

This leaves those applicants at a severe disadvantage, and it is not the best way to attract the most talented people to enter the classroom.
