To the Editor:

Re "Even for the Dead, There's a Race to Make the A-List at Oscars" (front page, Feb. 8): The segment of the Oscar telecast in which the recently deceased are paid tribute could accommodate more names if, midway through, a roll of credits were to appear. Fifty or more names could be added to the tribute without prolonging the segment more than a minute.

Yes, this would inevitably create some bitter arguments about those industry veterans who get their faces featured on screen and those who get only their names featured. But a lot fewer people would be snubbed altogether. As a compromise solution, I think that this would be worthy of consideration.
