To the Editor:
The juxtaposition of two March 20 news articles was insightful. The headline "Francis Vows to Serve 'Poorest, Weakest' and Urges Leaders to Offer Hope" speaks for itself. But in "Philippine Court Delays Law on Free Contraceptives for Poor," we are informed that the Catholic Church is leading the charge against the law passed in the Philippines that "would provide free contraception to poor women."
It is well known that providing poor women and couples the means to prevent unintended pregnancies is one way to help break the cycle of poverty. If Pope Francis really wants to serve the poor, he could halt the Catholic Church's opposition to this law.
