To the Editor:

"Recalling 'Writer's Paper' as a Name Fades" (City Room, March 7), about The International Herald Tribune and the original New York Herald Tribune, brings back a certain memory from my childhood, roughly from 1948 and with a sixth-grade teacher at a public school in Brooklyn.

She directed us to bring in a newspaper every day for several weeks for the purpose of teaching us about editorials, the stock market and so on, even about the proper folding of the paper for use in the subways. The papers selected were The New York Times and The New York Herald Tribune.

I chose The Times, but the paper of choice among most of the students was The Tribune. Why? The Tribune had comics; The Times did not.
