To the Editor:

It is shocking that Pope Francis so quickly upheld the controversial reprimand of the American nuns (news article, April 16).

He seemed to have begun his papacy with a refreshing concern for the poor. Does any American Catholic not agree that religious women, individually and institutionally, share that concern more faithfully than the male hierarchy and clergy? The pope should remember who his allies are.
