To the Editor:
Re "Judge Overturns Age Limit to Buy a Contraceptive" (front page, April 6): Bravo to Judge Edward R. Korman for acknowledging science.
Plan B is an innocuous drug. Young people cannot hurt themselves by taking it incorrectly, except that if taken too late, it will not have its intended effect. Furthermore, research, including my own, shows that teenagers do not decide to have sex because they can get Plan B. Tylenol, however, is not innocuous.
As a nurse practitioner (and mother of six) who has been providing care to adolescents for more than 25 years, I have seen a number of adolescents who attempted suicide with Tylenol and other over-the-counter drugs. By the reasoning of those who would limit access to Plan B, there should be no over-the-counter drugs, because they are ripe for misuse by teenagers.
