To the Editor:
Re "Hurricane Sandy Crept Up on a Boy Who Couldn't Swim. Guess What He Did" ("Summer Shorelines" series, front page, Aug. 12):
I hope that Kenrick Sultan is a confident swimmer by now — not only for reasons of survival but because his life will be enriched.
Swimming at New York City's excellent beaches and pools is an inexpensive source of great fun.
A swimmer myself for about 75 years, I tell parents that among the most important things they should teach their children are to swim and not to unduly fear dogs, two simple things that greatly broaden life's enjoyment.
