Re "Top 10% Took Home Over Half of U.S. Income in 2012" (Business Day, Sept. 11):
This disheartening but not surprising situation, the highest level of disparity ever, creates significant psychological stress for young adults who fear they will never be able to own a home or have a comfortable middle-class lifestyle, while at the same time they are bombarded by media images of luxury.
This increase in income disparity should be seen as a problem for all of us, not just those who are struggling. It has the potential to undermine our stability as a country and damage our reputation in the world. Voters should keep this in mind when making their choices in the coming elections.
