To the Editor:
I was disappointed to read "When Wealth Disappears," by Stephen D. King (Op-Ed, Oct. 7), and to hear more arguments that we must lower expectations. Surprisingly in such a discussion, Mr. King declines to mention that United States wealth is at its most unequal point in a century. A select few enjoy riches beyond imagination while many are in need.
We have enough in this country and on this planet to sustain the entire population with health and happiness so long as those resources are not hoarded. Our failure is one of economic theory and political organization, not of high expectations.
