As the United States and other major powers try to reach an agreement with Iran to control its nuclear program, many members of Congress insist that economic sanctions imposed to prevent Iran's development of nuclear weapons be toughened, not eased.
Western powers have frequently used sanctions for political and humanitarian reasons, with varying degrees of success. They've been credited with bringing Iran to the bargaining table, and yet the Castro regime remains in place after 51 years of a U.S.-imposed trade embargo.
