Room for Debate: Are Infrastructure Needs Truly Urgent?

After a gas explosion in East Harlem killed at least eight people on Wednesday, New Yorkers were shocked to learn that some gas mains in the area, and probably elsewhere, are 127 years old. While it's unclear what caused the blast or whether the main was involved, news that such vital equipment dates to the first Cleveland administration has raised alarm about the state of United States infrastructure and renewed concern that more needs to be done.

Does the nation need to allocate resources more urgently to repairing and replacing transmission lines, roads, bridges, etc., or are these concerns exaggerated?
