Re "A Year in Trees" (Sunday Review, April 7):

For a year, Bill Hayes observed the effects of the four seasons on trees, as he underwent the grieving process for his departed partner. He appears to be a fully engaged person who observes his surroundings through his senses and takes the time to reflect.

Wouldn't it be nice if people could avert their eyes from their electronic gadgets that scream for attention, for just half a day? Perhaps then they could begin to see the wondrous things that Mr. Hayes has seen.
