To the Editor:

Re "Platitudes Loom After the Newtown School Carnage" (Editorial Observer, March 30):

Francis X. Clines gives us a thoughtful heads up that enactment of much-needed gun control legislation is being suffocated by thralldom to the gun lobby. We subject these machines of sudden death and destruction to far less regulation than we do automobiles.

As a retired physician, I wish that everyone had to sit with unvarnished death for at least 12 hours. Perhaps that would provide a perspective that would reduce the worship of firearms.
