To the Editor:

Re "U.S. Workers Are Grounded by Deep Cuts" (front page, Aug. 19):

Perhaps if sequestration had begun with cuts to the salaries of members of Congress, it would not have taken place.

While Congress is grounded by partisan squabbling and inaction, our country suffers. These members of Congress are not job creators, as many claim to want to be, but job curtailers in the government sector.

No one wants business as usual if changes can make government agencies more efficient. But the way to make lasting change happen is by bipartisan cooperation.

Can America lose power in the world through "death by a thousand cuts"?
